hey so it turns out that brian moylan, the journalist who outed lee pace and caused that whole situation, also wrote an article in 2012 titled “I don’t regret outing Anderson Cooper”

and here’s what brian’s up to now (after lee had to clarify everything on twitter and defend his existence and desire for privacy):

so can we like. get rid of this guy

i’ve been trying to come up with something to add to this but i can’t. i have no words

You can contact W Magazine and tell them what you think of their “journalism” here

Here’s Brian Moylan’s Twitter. Tweet at him.

a college republican went crying to tucker carlson last night because some black classmates photoshopped his face onto a literal cracker

Yo this is my school!!! Okay let’s provide some backstory:

So my school is v White but also v liberal

Anyways we’re also a very academic/professional-driven institution so a lot (not all) of our students are taught about things like intersectionality, feminism, acceptance, etc through academic settings

And this boy, Ryan Wolfe, apparently took an issue to that and he published his opinions in the student-run conservative review website

Here are some of the topics he wrote on:

– how to “survive” social justice

– how intersectionality is fake

– SJWs want the most oppressed people to be in power because they’re the most special

– why the women’s march wasn’t inclusive (and why all the conservatives on campus were great for not causing riots when two of the leaders of the march came to campus)

– how BLM is ruining public perception of police officers

– “how to survive college as a conservative”

– conservative professors speaking out about being outnumbered and the minority

Anyways, total fuckboy

So back during the 2016 election season, the few conservatives we have on campus got together to host a panel about the future of the Republican Party and how it isn’t racist or whatever

And this panel is made up of entirely white people

So someone (I forget who) started a joke comparing them all to saltines

And Wolfe (the saltine) went off on them on twitter doing the typical fuckboy thing and complaining about how safe spaces don’t exist and saying that the panel wouldn’t be a safe space for anyone (ironic, no?)

And AFTER THE PANEL SOMEONE (her name’s Bri) JUST GOT UP AND HANDED THE GUY A BOX OF SALTINES WITH HIS FACE PHOTOSHOPPED ONTO THE CRACKERS

And THIS BOI GOES AND TRIES TO COMPLAIN TO THE ADMINISTRATION ABOUT FEELING UNSAFE ON CAMPUS AND UNABLE TO EXPRESS HIS OPINIONS LIKE BOY WHAT DO YOU THINK A SAFE SPACE IS

Our diversity and inclusion committee (also our committee for addressing prejudice-related harassment on campus) was like lol r u serious and he was like yeah

So they were like fine I guess we do technically have to do something if it’s harassment so they did the same thing they always do for smaller harassment cases on campus (two steps: 1) separating the students, 2) mediated meetings) the third step was the judicial case and the University was like nope we’ve already addressed your ridiculousness as much as we’re willing to sorry bud

And then he went and cried to Fox News and I got a text from my dad at 11:30 at night “racism at wake forest has gotten out of hand this is not acceptable” and I got to go down this rabbit hole of finding out about all this mess just like the rest of you and boy it gave me such a good laugh

(Also people are now calling him “Cryan” instead of “Ryan” so if you want to get that going please do)

Anyways for those of you wondering (like me) why this is just now coming out despite the fact that it happened a year and a half ago, it’s bc he’s graduating and wants a job as a journalist with Fox News so like laugh but also be v critical of the whole thing bc it’s very intentional on his part

before you take off on the fact that there are outdated memes in black panther (”what are those” and “whip my hair back and forth” are the two i noticed) consider that wakanda is an isolated nation which nevertheless has contact with the outside world. with what minimal contact they have, i really doubt that they would keep up to date on current pop culture. what i’m trying to say here is that black panther uses outdated memes as worldbuilding.

actually black panther is set in 2016 (a week after civil war) so ‘what are those’ was actually 100% topical. shuri is an advanced memelord

also movie executives have no idea how long memes last for and thought itd still be funny and interesting

Counterpoint: everything Shuri says is funny and interesting regardless of what it is

okay, so everyone has set up the main rivalry in Black Panther as Killmonger vs T’Challa. And obviously that’s the main narrative structure of the story, not arguing with that. But I feel like from a purely character arc standpoint, the actual battle is Killmonger vs Nakia, and she obliterates him.

Erik Stevens is a CIA covert operative; basically, he’s a spy. So is Nakia. And when you look at their various actions through the lens of “who accomplished their mission better?”, it becomes pretty clear that Erik spent 20-some years preparing to destabilize T’Challa’s reign, including having inside knowledge and a birthright on his side…and Nakia spent roughly 36 hours successfully destabilizing his reign, in turn, with nothing but her incredible ability to network disparate resources.

Let’s just review her actions over those 36 hours okay:

– Gets the surviving members of the royal family successfully out of danger within seconds of the coup (aka the only living people with a competing blood claim to the throne aka the greatest threat to his regime)

– Sows enough doubt in the “greatest warrior in the country” about Killmonger’s ability to lead that when the time comes, Okoye and the entire Dora Milaje all defect (eventually saving hundreds of lives)

– Steals a heart-shaped herb from under his nose as he’s identifying it as the most important power resource in the country and trying to prevent it falling into anyone else’s hands, lol too late buddy

– Immediately identifies the person in the country with the best platform to mount a counter-insurgency (M’Baku), identifies what it will take to get him on their side, and casually resolves a centuries-long division in their country while she’s at it

– Correctly predicts Killmonger’s opening move of distributing vibranium to the war dogs, and assists in a comprehensive strategy that shuts it down cold–a strategy they wouldn’t have been able to use if she hadn’t gotten Shuri, Ross, and T’Challa all in one place with the right information at the right time

As soon as T’Challa is back she takes an immediate backseat again (she said it herself, she’s a spy, not the leader of an army), but, seriously, if you have to pinpoint the one person who took down Killmonger, it’s undeniably her. And she did it by clearly demonstrating that her skills as a war dog are miles ahead of his as a CIA agent (due in part, I’m sure, to being trained in a superior country, but also she’s Just That Good).

Nakia and Killmonger also both want Wakanda to use its resources to help others – but Nakia thinks in terms of “let’s admit more refugees” while Killmonger goes for “let’s build an empire.”

I’m so worried for her future, too, that’s what worries me the most. It’s so sad when I feel like in the old days we could be secure that she was going to be around for a while and we’d see what she could offer the sport as she grew, you know? (Like Slutskaya.)

I KNOW. And we’ve seen how quick Russia–and particularly Eteri–is to stop supporting their skaters in favor of the next young one, and I’m just … so worried she’s going to brushed aside
