about Very Lonely Superhero that finds a team on craig’s list

I got the idea for this answering a tumblr ask ages ago and have been slowwwwwly writing it in between other projects since (I’ve written two “issues,” there is a whole lot ahead). It depends so much on fannish tropes and pop cultural things that it will probably be posted on the AO3 instead of shopped around when the time comes, but I am bad at updating WIPs so that will be a while from now.

Basically, there’s this superhero, in a university city in Ohio, who’s got nothing but superpowers. No backup (her ex-grad supervisor is no longer in town, he’s the one who gave her powers), no funding (she’s temping because when your grad degree doesn’t work out you take what you can get), no training (her combat skills leave something to be desired), no support network, and a problem. The problem is a superpowered thief named Filch who keeps kicking her ass but who she feels is her responsibility.

She’s kind of a joke. She can’t afford a supersuit so she’s fighting in workout clothes bought at thrift stores and has thereby earned the super glorious moniker Goodwill.

She knows it’s not sustainable.

So when there’s a little twitter hashtag half-jokingly telling her to find some Goodwill Ambassadors, she does the only thing she can think of and posts an ad on Craigslist.

Featuring strangers becoming a team, a team becoming a family, plot, lots of fake tweets and news articles and things like that, and hopefully a superhero managing to become more competent.

A giant, black, sarcophagus has been found in Alexandria and I could not be more excited about it.

If we do open it we could find

  • The tomb of Alexander the Great (Coolest possible answer. Probably the coolest thing we’ve found in my lifetime unless aliens decide to show up.)
  • Rando important Egyptian Pharaoh ( Also cool answer. Definitely an awesome find.)
  • An ancient and unspeakable evil (We haven’t had a good ol’ doomsday level curse in a good long while. Definitely overdue for this one)

It’s a win/win/win scenario.
